Justin Tomlinson

OUR FOUNDER/CEO

  • Justin Tomlinson has become one of this generation’s leading marketing minds in the entertainment industry. Over the course of the past decade, with experience and success that spans across genres, he has a proven and vast understanding of music’s current landscape, and great insight into how that will shift and evolve in the future. The foundation of his knowledge of the industry, Tomlinson attained as a Music Business student of Five Town’s College. Upon the completion of his studies, Tomlinson began his professional career in BET’s Talent department, serving as a production assistant for their special programming, including the highly rated and cultural juggernaut, “106 & Park,” and the network’s annual tent pole production, The BET Awards. After his stint at BET, Tomlinson seized an opportunity to realize his dream of working more directly on the music which was broadcast on, and supported by, the network. He began what would become an impressive, nearly decade-long, ascent from intern to Sr. Director through the label ranks by accepting a position in the marketing department of SONY Music’s principal faith-based label, RCA Inspiration (RCAI). While at the label, Tomlinson supported the marketing and publicity campaigns for artists such as Gospel legend Kirk Franklin, as well as new-generation inspirational pioneers Travis Greene and Koryn Hawthorne, among countless others. In 2020, It was his ideation and execution of Franklin’s and Hawthorne’s social media content curation that bolstered both of their digital imprints during the otherwise paralyzed COVID 19 pandemic-era, which included the launch of both of their TikTok accounts amidst the platform’s international zeitgeist and encroachment upon the music industry. About Tomlinson, Hawthorne says, “Justin is THAT GUY! I have had the pleasure of working with him on multiple projects throughout the years. He’s super smart, hardworking, diverse and innovative! There is no one better to have on your team.” Tomlinson doubled down on his success and proficiency in the digital marketing space in an entirely different cultural climate by leaving RCAI for SONY Nashville, where, as Digital Product Manager, he spearhead the successful digital marketing strategies for Country artists including Kane Brown, Niko Moon, Chris Young, and Seaforth, to name a few, before returning to RCAI as Sr. Director of Digital Marketing for another brief stint at the label where his career blossomed. Upon his return, he once again found success with the label’s notoriously extensive roster, now including Kierra Sheard, whose album, KIERRA, unseated the seemingly perennial #1 release by Kanye West, a feat undoubtedly fueled partly by its digital footprint, overseen by Tomlinson. Most recently, Tomlinson served as Sr. Director of Global Marketing for another of the three major US label groups, Atlantic Records. In this role, he has successfully crafted marketing campaigns for artists of various genres and at varying points in their careers. R & B/Soul acts Janelle Monae, Tank, and Kehlani, Hip-Hop generals Meek Mill and A Boogie wit da Hoodie and the new-to-the-game duo, Flyana Boss, as well as electronic starlet, FKA twigs, and international dance architect, David Guetta, have all benefitted from Tomlinson’s insight and broad-scoped approach to amplifying their voices and projects, resulting in competitively charting releases powered by compelling content coupled with innovative strategies. Next on the docket, in a natural and promising next step, is the launch of J Note Worldwide, LLC - a freelance consulting firm with Tomlinson at the helm, that will autonomously offer Artist & Talent Management, Product Management, Artist & Brand Marketing (including Digital and Terrestrial Strategy) services to labels, production companies, and recording artists. J Note Worldwide, LLC will help to drive consumer engagement and consumption, maintain and manage client viability, and capitalize off of an ever-changing industry landscape. About the new venture, Tomlinson offers, “As a lifelong lover of both music and culture, I am excited about the opportunity to marry the two in ways that are effective, productive, and forward thinking for all J Note Worldwide clients. Today’s music industry, across all genres, is a consumer and an authentic content marketing game, and I believe my passion, coupled with my diverse experience, puts me in a unique position for success.”
